Following our success with AB1277 which will improve refueling service for disabled drivers at self-service only stations, the Department of Rehabilitation, under the aegis of Brenda Premo and with efficient staff work by Les Treece-Sinclair, has reconvened the SCR16 Work Group. With membership of about fifteen representatives of the service stations, oil marketers, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and the like, that group met through 1996 and produced the report which was the basis for AB1277.
The newly reconstituted SCR16 Group will work out details of implementing AB1277 as to signage and other details needing attention. They will also work onsome of the other issues left over from the Group's original deliberations, such as signage and service on signage, and possible geographical requirements for stations that will provide refueling service to disabled drivers.
In addition, CDR has received a grant from the Department of Rehabilition to conduct training on the implementation of AB1277.
The first step in this project has been completed--the development of an advisory document answering frequently asked questions regarding the provisions of the bill and its relationship to other laws.
